Take Control of Your Diabetes
St. Mary Medical Center can help you take control of your diabetes. We offer a "Diabetes Self-Management Education" class taught by Certified Diabetic Educators.
Individual sessions can be scheduled on Wednesdays from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm or Thursdays from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm. The four-week course group sessions are offered every Thursday from 8:00 until 11:00 am. Please call

Group sessions offer interactions and support from other people living with diabetes and participants can learn to make lifestyle changes. One-on-one sessions offer personalized self care planning.
Discussion includes topics such as defining diabetes, blood glucose monitoring, insulin and medical administration, nutritional management and problem solving.
The hospital's Diabetes Self-Management Education has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for Quality Self-Management Education* and is the only ADA certified program in Long Beach.
Refreshments and educational materials are provided. The course is offered in the Diabetes Education Dept. on the first floor of the main hospital at 1050 Linden Avenue in Long Beach. Pre-registration is required. A physician referral and authorization from your insurance company is also required.
