Breast Center Call to Action
The Imaging Center at St. Mary Medical Center is one of the first Breast Centers in the City of Long Beach to obtain a state-of-art digital mammography unit. The center has been providing mammogram and diagnostic imaging services in the Long Beach and surrounding communities since 1984 and is accredited by the American College of Radiology and is certified by the Federal Drug Administration.
The Imaging Center at St. Mary offers a variety of programs for mammography.
The Cancer Detection Program: Every Woman Counts
This program is funded by the State of California and offers a free screening mammogram for women 50 years of age and older who are uninsured and of low or no income. Through this program, women receive a Free clinical breast examination - Free screening mammogram - Free diagnostic mammogram, breast ultrasound and/or breast biopsy, if necessary - Free patient coordination and referral services for the treatment of breast cancer.
Susan G. Komen for Cure Grant Award
The Imaging Center has been a recipient of the Susan G. Komen Cure Grant Award annually since 2002. The grant covers diagnostic breast care services for women who are 49 years of age and younger, uninsured and of low or no income. Through this award, women receive a Free diagnostic mammogram - Free breast ultrasound and/or breast biopsy, if necessary - Free patient coordination and referral services for the treatment of breast cancer. A written referral from a primary care physician is necessary to take advantage of this program.
Family Pact Program
This program covers one screening mammogram per year for women 40 years of age and older.
Accreditation
St. Mary Medical Center is accredited in mammography by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Mammography is a specific type of imaging test that uses a low-dose x-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.

In addition to breast care services, the center offers a variety of imaging services: Bone Density Testing (DEXA Scan) to determine the presence of Osteoporosis - A variety of ultrasound examinations and Diagnostic Radiology Services (X-rays).
